Movember: Why Open Conversation is Our Greatest Strength

To further support our team’s Movember efforts, one of our First Aid for Mental Health advisors, Paula Clayden, has shared valuable insights to boost awareness and support our campaign goals.

” As one of Stellar Omada’s Mental Health First Aiders, I’m proud to be part of a community that values not just the work we do, but the people behind it. Across the UK, our teams are full of talented, driven individuals — and just like physical health, our mental wellbeing needs regular care, attention, and conversation.

Every November, Movember sparks powerful conversations around men’s health — both physical and mental. While the moustaches get most of the attention (and rightfully so!), the movement is about much more than facial hair. It’s about breaking down stigma, encouraging open dialogue, and making sure men feel supported to seek help when they need it.

According to the Movember Foundation, the numbers tell a clear story:

1 in 8 men experience a mental health problem each year.
3 out of 4 suicides are men.
Many men still feel pressure to stay silent rather than reach out.

These aren’t just statistics — they’re reminders that we all play a role in changing the story. Movember reminds us all that talking about mental health isn’t a weakness – it’s a strength.

At Stellar Omada, we’re lucky to have leaders who don’t just talk about wellbeing — they live it. Our CEO, Colin Frame, has been a passionate supporter of Movember for years. Every November, Colin takes part in the challenge, proudly growing his moustache and using it as a conversation starter to raise awareness and funds for men’s health causes. His visible support sends a powerful message: that looking after your mental and physical health is something to be proud of, and that it’s okay — in fact, essential — to talk about how we’re doing. Leadership like this helps break down stigma and sets the tone for a culture of openness and care across the organisation.

We’re committed to creating a culture where everyone feels safe, supported, and seen. Our Mental Health First Aiders are here to listen, provide confidential support, and signpost resources when colleagues are struggling. Sometimes, a simple conversation can make all the difference.

Throughout November, we’re shining a spotlight on:

Raising awareness of men’s mental and physical health issues.
Encouraging check-ins — with ourselves and each other.
Supporting Movember through fundraising, sharing resources, and growing those iconic moustaches!

Whether it’s a chat over coffee, a message online, or a quiet check-in after a tough week — small moments of connection matter. You don’t need to be a mental health expert to make a difference; sometimes just asking, “How are you, really?” can open the door to support.

To everyone taking part in Movember this year — growing, moving, or donating — thank you for helping to keep men’s health in the spotlight. And to all my colleagues: remember, our wellbeing matters every month of the year.” – Paula Clayden
